About Us
Village Climate Solutions Limited (VCSL) is implementing the Village Climate Solutions Project (VCSP) in Lindi Municipality, Mtama, Liwale, Nachingwea, Mvomero, Morogoro and Kilosa District Councils in Tanzania. It is a high-integrity REDD+ initiative aligned with VM0048 and registered under ID 1325 with Verra under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCB) standards.
VCSP spans 83 Village Land Forest Reserves and 3 Local Authority Forest Reserves (≈614,000 hectares), aiming to avoid more than 21 million tCO₂e- over 40 years while protecting at least eight endangered and eleven vulnerable species, including the African elephant and the Rondo dwarf galago.
Grounded in opportunity cost compensation, VCSP applies a performance-based payment model that delivers long-term benefits to participating villages to finance household dividends and investments in health, education and water infrastructure, while the project separately strengthens forestry governance and agricultural extension systems to sustain long-term climate and livelihood outcomes.
· Securing Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and supporting project registration and expansion.
· Expanding existing Village Land Forest Reserves and establishing new ones.
· Strengthening community-led forest protection, including effective boundary demarcation and patrols supported by cloud-based platforms.
· Conducting Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) in accordance with VCS and CCB standards.
· Delivering performance-based payments to communities, aligned with opportunity costs and implemented through regulations that prioritize individual and household-level dividend sharing.
· Providing agricultural extension services to improve farm productivity.
· Securing long-term financing (grants, loans, and carbon sales) to sustain project implementation.
